Situation: I am creating .inf files to import in GPOs to distribute security settings. In an .inf file you can specify registry setings withvalues of any type, also Reg_Binary (which cannot be done with .adm files). However when specifying the data for the Reg_Binary value only numbers are accepted (seems logical: write down the binary value as a number) but when looking at the registry setting afterwards these number are interpreted differently (as HEX) so that the data specified in the .inf file no longer corresponds with the applied data. Additional complication: In an .inf file another notation than simple numeric values (to represent Reg-Binary data) can be used and this seems to work (when the GPO is applied the correct value is written to the registry), however when looking at the "settings" tab of the GPO concerned with the GPMC an error message is displayed and the configured values cannot be viewed. Question: does anyone know how to configure Reg_Binary values (other than 0 or 1) via imported .inf files (or via customization of the sceregvl.inf file) or does anyone know of a reference that explains how to do this (other than all whitepapers you find that do not elaborate Reg_Binary configurations)? _________________________________________________________________ News, entertainment and everything you care about at Live.com.
