Hello all,
I've been working with an OU administrator that has created a GPO on a
Vista client that apparently configured many of the security settings
under Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings. She
told me the GPO creation and a few subsequent edits via the GPOE went as
expected. However, today she went in to edit it when we drill down to
Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings the console
only shows "Windows cannot open template file". She said she is
attempting to edit the GPO from the same Vista client she created it
on. Attempts to edit the GPO from a Server 2008 machine also result in
the same error. We do not have a central store, only four
well-connected domain controllers in a single site and the domain is at
the 2003 functional level.

When I go to view the GPO's files in the sysvol directory, the only
oddity I see is the presence of a GptTmpl.tmp file along with the
GptTmpl.inf file at
\\domain\SysVol\domain\Policies\{GUID}\Machine\Microsoft\WindowsNT\SecEdit
Other GPOs don't have the GptTmpl.tmp file.

Authenticated Users have read permissions for the GPO. Domain Admins
(me) have Edit, delete, modify rights and Enterprise Domain Controllers
have Read rights.

Sounds to me like some GPO corruption but I'm not sure how this has
occurred and/or if I can rectify it. Or maybe I'm missing something
else? Any ideas what else it might be or that I should check out?

Thanks!
Jason
