Hi, Been using Quest Desktop extensions for the past few years to help with file / folder management, drive mappings, environment variables, registry settings, etc. Finally found the time to migrate these settings to Policy Preferences and after extensive (or at least I thought) testing was comfortable enough to cut from Quest to Microsoft. Today, I applied a user based Preference policy to a subset of our IT based customers and found one of the settings didn't respond as expected. In the Files portion of the user preference I had configured a "Delete" action on %DesktopDir%\. and targeted it to run if the logged in user wasn't a member of a specific AD security group. Also configured it to Run in logged-on users security context. Well.... A lot of my co-workers lost their precious desktop icons.... Looking at the event log it appears this policy processed under the System account, which to me would explain why the Item-Level targeting didn't work. Two questions. Anybody know if there is a way to recover these deleted files? Any idea what went wrong in this scenario? Thanks for any input you may have.
