Hi All,

I am having real difficulty with GPP Printers and Windows 7 x64 -
windows XP x32 works great. When a user logs in, the workstation runs
through all other policies but when it gets to printers just sits there
saying "Applying Group Policy Printer Preferences"

I have disabled both user and computer "point and print restrictions"
with no luck. Print drivers on the print server are ok also.

If we map manually to the printers it fine. Just when GPP is applied.
Is there any way to see what printer the processing is setting stuck on?
Or perhaps set a time out

Thanks

Regards,

Robert

Hi Robert,

I remember having issues getting printers setup via GPP on Windows
7/Vista as well.

Robert Singers pointed out this link on ActiveDir.org which I used to
solve my problem -
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/threa
d/ab86bc47-3186-45ec-90e6-a36e7d083deb. I found the GPO setting didn't
work for me so applied the associated registry keys instead as suggested
by one of the posters, using GPP. I actually included them in the same
GPO as my GPP printer installation and it works fine for me.

However, Susan Bradley also pointed out the following MS KB article
which sounds more like what you're experiencing (my machines didn't hang
they just didn't install the printers)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;973772&sd=rss&sp
id=12925 - Group Policy Preferences stops responding when you try to
configure the printer item for printers that use third-party drivers on
a Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008-based computer.

Hope this helps

Andrew
