Sitaram-
The point and print restrictions policy should be all that you need. The device restrictions policies don't really apply in this case. They are more designed for removable media.

Subject: [gptalk] allow non-admins to install printer drivers on windows 7

Helo all,

I am trying to configure windows 7 to allow non-admins to install pritner drivers for network printers. Microsoft is talking about enabling a policy named "Allow non-administrators users to install drivers for these device classes." but I couldn't find this setting anywhere under computer configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Device Installation.

Is this something which is not applicable to windows 7? But I am surprised to see microsoft docs talking about this(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725772.aspx).

One more thing is, in step-by-step guide<http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb530324.aspx> from microsoft, they mentioned about adding device class ID to "Allow installation of devices using drivers that match these device setup classes" policy. But it is not working as expected though I fetched printers GUID from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff553426.aspx and added to aforementioned policy. In serveral blogs/forums, I read that this procedure is not working for many people. Only "point and Print Restrictions" seems to be working for them.

How far this is correct in a windows 7 environment?

Thanks,
Sitaram
