| Hi All,
Has anyone had the issue where the screen refreshes a number of times throughout the day, cursor briefly changes to egg timer, we beleive its occurs when GPO's are refreshing, but not sure, need to investigate further, thought I would shout out to the list 1st.
Bit more background, recently migrated to a new forest with 1 domain for our European infrastructure, from 1 forest 5 domains (legacy) and just UK based. We never had the issue in our old forest, so we beleive it to be related to GPO's being applied by our headquarters, but need to provide evidence, all the GPO's we had in our legacy infra have been migrated over, but now we have a large number of new of GPO's, our UK policies are being filtered on security group membership and some on wmi filters, where as out HQ gpo's use WMI filtering for majority of their GPO's.
Windows 2003/XP Clients (UK) Windows 2002/Vista (Europe).
Any pointers greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ricky.

| You need to pay close attention to the exact times you're seeing the issues. If it is in fact Group Policy then would be seeing the issue every 1 ½ - 2 hours (when Group Policy is doing a background refresh) and the times would match up to GP events in the Application log. Hope that helps.

| Hi Jamie,
I have had this issue myself, but thought it was just me, till our end-users kept complaining, was just hoping others may have come across a similar issue before, I will check the application event log next time it happens to me, if it is GPO's, any ideas how it could be troubleshooted? screen refresh sounds like an odd thing to trouble shoot.

| Well, for starters, run a RSoP on an affected system to see what policies and filters are being applied. You can get a nice report based view through the GPMC GP Results Wizard. The screen flickers are normal, but users normally don't notice. If it is that noticeable I would suspect is the additional GPOs being applied by your HQ which are using WMI filtering. WMI filters are usually the culprit when there is noticeable utilization during background policy refreshes.
