Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could assist me, we are needing to change the policy that sets the speaker type on Windows XP Machines. to go the the area manually I go Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, Under Speaker Settings > Advanced > Speaker Setup I need to have this set to Laptop Mono

The current policy in place does not allow our users to access the area and so we need to have this set up in GPO

Any help gratefully Appreciated

Regards

Dave Walsh

Hi Dave,

Doubt there's a policy for this. If that's the case there's a couple
options. You could run sysinternal's process monitor to monitor the
registry, make the change on a machine and discover what regkey is being
changed then either:

a) Create an admin template to set the value of this key and add it to a
GPO. Keep in mind that the setting will be tattooed, so if the computers
the GPO is applied to ever fall out of the scope of management that setting
will not be reverted to its original state; or

b) Use GPP to set the regkey with the appropriate value. I believe GPP has
the option to revert the value to its original state when the computer
falls out of the scope of management too.

Daniel.
