| This is driving me nuts and I haven't been able to find an answer online yet. Wondering if anyone else has run into this: I installed Vista Enterprise on my Helpdesk PC and have been getting validation errors when I try to add a software pkg in GPMC and when I attempt to access our DHCP server, nothing comes up except the server name and 'server option'. What am I missing? Thanks for any help.

| Jack,
Questions outside of Group Policy are usually better suited for newsgroups that focus on those technologies. However, in this case I was able to find the following from the KB930056 <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930056> , titled "You experience installation errors and compatibility problems when you install Windows Server 2003 management tools on a Windows Vista-based computer". Sounds like this might be your problem.
DHCP Server Administration (dhcpmgmt.msc)
An administrator cannot view existing IPv4 scopes and IPv4 super-scopes by using the Administration Tools Pack on a Windows Vista-based computer to connect to a Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1-based computer. Additionally, an administrator cannot create new IPv4 scopes on a Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1-based computer.
Note If you do not see the scope information, apply hotfix 935988. For more information about hotfix 935988, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
935988 <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935988/> (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935988/ ) When you try to remotely administer a DHCP server from a Windows Vista-based computer, you cannot find the DHCP scopes

Darren, I used the stripped down version of Admin Studio to create the msi. I've got a lot to learn about packaging so that makes sense. Any ideas about why I can't see anything in DHCP? Thanks for the help.

Jack-
That sounds like an issue with the MSI. Windows Installer has this thing called ICE Validation that tests to make sure the package database is valid. I suspect you are hitting that. Did you self-package this app? It could be an issue with the version of Windows Installer on Vista being less tolerant of validation errors than XP.

Darren, Thanks for the quick reply. When I try to attach a package to a GPO for distribution, I'm able to navigate to the package and select it but it hangs for a minute and comes back with a message that the package couldn't be verified, run validation. I'll post the exact message when I get back to my desk. I'm re-imaging the lab with the Maple software pkg I was having trouble with in my last post. But, what I've been doing is remoting into another Helpdesk computer w/ XP and I'm able to attach the pkg w/o a problem and it'll show up in my GPMC.

I've not heard of this one. What do you mean by "validation errors"?
