The GPTALK mailing list is where you can send and receive email related to Windows Group Policy. You must subscribe to the list to send and receive mail from the list. The purpose of the list is to provide a forum for asking and answering technical questions related to Group Policy. Any question is fair game as long as it is related to Windows Group Policy. Subject: [gptalk] "Force Classic Start Menu" -> Disabled, does not change the look of the Start Menu

Hi, I am trying to force "Start Menu" instead of "Classic Start Menu" to users. Here's what is says on "Help": "If you enable this setting, the Start menu displays the classic Start menu in the Windows 2000 style and displays the standard desktop icons. If you disable this setting, the Start menu only displays in the new style, meaning the desktop icons are now on the Start page." After I've set this policy to "Disabled" users still have the Classic Start Menu (Windows XP clients), and they can select either one they like, by right clicking the taskbar and selecting "Properties" -> "Start Menu". If I enable this policy setting, users have Classic Start Menu, and they cannot select anything else. Is there a way I could force users not to have Classic Start Menu? Is the Start Menu selected in default profile overriding the policy setting, or why does the policy not work? Thanks, Timo
