i followed the same
Group Policy Preferences: computer configuration\preferences\windows settings
i select file->-new- >action->create->
in source i have given \\share\doc1
and is destination i have given %DesktopDir%
but when i logon to the client i do not see any doc on the desktop
please correct me if i am making any mistake is this.

| If you’re pushing the file to Vista/Server 2008/Windows 7 computers, you need to be aware of the *strange* way profiles have changed! To add a file to the “allusers” desktop, the destination you want is C:\ProgramData\Desktop That’s a lot simpler than adding a startup program; that would go in: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start menu\Programs\Startup !!! Who thinks up these ideas?! (I detect the influence of magic mushrooms, Koolaid...or both) HTH Nick

i am doing like this.
using GPP ->user configuration -> preferences -> windows settings -> file -> new -> create ->
Source files :- \\fileshare\share\test.cmd
Destination file:- %DesktopDir%
After logon I’m not able to see the file on the desktop.
Please let me know if I’m making any mistake in the process.
DC is 2008 r2 and workstations are windows 2003 .

| Note that %desktopdir% doesn't resolve to anything unless you've created that somehow on the target systems.
