| I've been getting script errors with IE8 when viewing Group Policy Preferences in the GPME. This has occured with both Beta2 and the recently released RC1.
The exact error is:
An error has occured in the script on this page
line: 53 Char: 1 Error: Invalid Character Code: 0 URL: res://c:\Windows\System32\gppref.dll/IDR_POLICY_VIEW.htm
I've tried checking Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer), DIsable Script Debugging (Other), and unchecking Display a notification about every script error in IE8 Advanced Settings. I've also tried an IE Settings reset. This isn't a show stopper, just annoying having to click yes several times when asked "Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?" when trying to work with GPP. Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a workaround?
Thanks,
Scott Klassen

| Microsoft announced a hotfix for an IE 8 Admin. Template issue, but not GP Preferences. It may be worth trying this fix in case it helps your problem. Its here:

| I should have given more details about the environment. Vista Sp1 admin workstation, Win 2k8 DC's. Don't think this fix would be applicable, since I'm dealing with ADMX files and not ADM.
I'm leaning more towards an IE security setting being the culprit. Possibly one of the FEATURE_BLOCK_LMZ reg entries or a zone setting. I'll keep testing and see what I can figure out.

| That would not surprise me since that same issue came up when IE 7 shipped-IE Maintenance policy would choke if certain IE zone settings were used. I'm going to forward this to the GP Product team and see if it's a known issue.

| FYI. This is the from the GP Product Team on this issue:
"We are aware that the IE8 GPP extension incorrectly configures a few of the settings. There is a bug that is opened for this and it will be fixed in the next release."

| Thank Darren. Appreciate your confirmation that it's not just me. J If you happen to magically get some info about what specific settings need to be changed, for a workaround, feel free to share. I was going to do a comparative review of IE7 vs IE8 security settings for the local machine zone in the registry, if I can find the time.
